The exterior coverings of the balls, made either of pelts, or tanned sheep's skins — M.
Ball Leathers, dressed with oil, were introduced within the author's recollection; but, although more durable, and sweeter in use than pelts, they were not adapted to produce fine work, and were therefore soon discontinued.
