 +====== Till, or Shelf ======
 +
 +A mahogany shelf, in wooden presses, divided in two longitudinally, that clasps the [[h:hose|hose]], and causes it and the[[s:spindle| spindle]] to come down perpendicularly without any play. It is dovetailed at both ends, and fits into the [[c:cheeks|cheeks]], with block wedges underneath to keep it up in its situation; the dovetails also keep the cheeks together, and answer the same purpose that the [[s:summer|summer]] formerly did. The opening that the hose works in is lined with brass, and is made to fit it accurately.
