Description
The nightmarish face of a grinning man wearing a jester’s hat. His teeth spell the word “prologue” and his eyes are made of two bells from his hat. This picture is used as a headpiece for the prologue of the second ten stories from Droll Stories.
The caption reads in the original French: Le dieu des rieurs.
The translation provided here is from the edition published in London by the Bibliophilist Society, 1874.
