Book

Title:
Recueil d'ornements
Author:
Beaucé, Vivant
Publisher:
Paris: Désiré Guilmard, n.d. [1841?]

Description:

Ornamental plate showing an architectural composition combining basket-handle arches, cornices, and culs-de-lampe, richly decorated with figures of mermaids, dolphins, fauns, and other mythological creatures.

This book consists of an incomplete series of twenty-six plates gathered in no particular order. The inscriptions suggest that these plates were first published in a series of installments and later privately bound into book form. This would explain why the usual markers of regular book publishing, such as publication date, colophon, etc., are missing. The front flyleaf bears minimal handwritten information, notably the possible year of the binding work: 1841.
