Description:

A man and his wife stand side by side in their drawing room, their arms interlocked, as she gestures toward a table on which a violin and sheet music can be seen. The decorative background includes the figure of Mercury (the patron god of financial gain and thieves) flying among clouds over the main motif, sacks full of money, scattered coins, and bank receipts.

The caption reads in the original French: Une famille de la Chaussée d’Antin.
