There were twelve stones around the fire, and on each stone sat a still figure.
Description:
Older, bearded men with serious expressions, wearing hooded cloaks, are sitting around a fire as a small girl approaches them imploringly. Smoke rises from the fire, curling into the night sky, where a few birds can be seen flying.
The caption reads in the original French: Autour du feu il y avait douze pierres, et sur chaque pierre un personnage immobile.
