Description:

An adult porcupine is depicted along with three juveniles in a woodland setting. The adult has a paw on one of two brownish roots, on which the small group is about to feed. The foreground shows patches of moss and short grass, while the blurred background suggests trees and irregular ground.
Old World porcupines can be any species of rodents in the family Hystricidae. They are characterized by the thick spines which cover their bodies.

The caption reads in the original German: Stachelschwein.
