Description:

Device used by Sébastien Gryphe, also known as Sebastian Gryphius (1492-1556), featuring a griffin. Gryphe was a German-born printer and bookseller in Lyon. The motto Virtute duce, comite fortuna, surrounding the main motif, means “Under the guidance of valor, accompanied by good fortune."
