Description:

The only survivor of the English ship Dunbar, stranded at the rocky base of a cliff, sees the rope the rescuers have thrown him, while the storm sweeps the reefs and the raging sea in the background. The Dunbar ran aground on the night of August 20, 1857.

The caption reads in the original French: Perte du clipper Dunbar près de Sydney.
