Erynnis

Erynnis

This and the following five pictures were taken from Dante’s Inferno, by Dante Alighieri, published by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., New York, circa 1866.

He, knowing well the miserable hags
Who tend the queen of endless woe, thus spake:
“Mark thou each dire Erynnis. To the left,
This is Megaera, to the right hand, she
Who wails, Alecto; and Tisiphone
I’ th’ midst.”
