Description:

Two young boys rest on the bank of an inlet, one seated at the water's edge, reaching out to help a girl swimming toward the shore. They are unaware of a mermaid approaching in the background, partially concealed behind a stand of cattails, though her presence has already startled four other children huddled beneath a tree on the far bank. Illustration to “The Little Mermaid.”
