A woman is falling from the gondola of a hot hair balloon flying over the roofs.

Sophie Blanchard was an aeronaut and the widow of Pierre Blanchard, an aeronaut himself. On July 6, 1819, as she was taking part in an exhibition, the fireworks she was supposed to launch set fire to her balloon, causing it to crash on the roofs.

The caption reads in the original French: Mort de madame Blanchard.
