Description:
Botanical steel engraving depicting Echinocereus dasyacanthus, commonly called the hairy hedgehog cactus, a species native to arid regions of Mexico and the United States. The plant’s cylindrical stems are densely covered in bristly spines, which give rise to its vernacular name. It blooms with pink or red flowers in spring and summer. The plate’s caption retains a historical taxonomic designation that has since been superseded.
