Les étoiles—Title

Hand-colored title page for Les étoiles: dernière féerie (The Stars: A Final Enchantment), illustrated by J.-J. Grandville and published posthumously in 1849. Texts by Joseph Méry and Louis-François Raban, writing under the pen name Comte Fœlix.

The illustration depicts two female figures hovering in the sky on either side of a small crescent moon. Garlands of stars flow from the crescent to form a decorative, chandelier-like motif that frames the hand-lettered title, then cascade toward a half-visible globe inscribed with the authors' and publisher's names.
