Description:

A male European green woodpecker (Picus viridis) is seen in profile perched on a branch, while below it a juvenile pokes its head out of a hole in the tree trunk. The green woodpecker is a bird in the family Picidae with a distinctive green plumage, brightened by a red cap. It lives at the edges of woodlands, parks or even gardens and feeds on insects, with a strong predilection for ants.
