Description:

A woman and a man are seen from the side, facing each other on a landing stage as a gondola approaches. The man turns his gaze toward the viewer, while the woman looks demurely down. Behind them, more people in fancy dress can be seen, including a group of musicians playing against a backdrop of ornate architecture enhanced with garlands of fruit.

This illustration is part of a diptych, of which the second piece can be found under the title No Power to Move. The pair illustrates the story titled “The Assignation.”
