Namur is a a city in Belgium, located at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse. A medieval citadel sits on a rocky spur between the two rivers, overlooking the city. As an important position on the route to France, the city was marked by many battles and sieges throughout history, particularly during World War I and II, when it suffered considerable damage. Namur is now the capital of the federal region of Wallonia, where the spoken language is French.
