Description:

Flower cluster of Rhododendron carneum elegantissimum, a flowering plant in the family Ericaceae. This variety was created by William Smith, from Norbiton, by crossbreeding R. arboreum with R. molle ssp. japonicum. After serving as gardener to the Earl of Liverpool, Smith set up his own nursery around 1830.
