Description
A journey on a horse-drawn coach is depicted in three main episodes strung together in a flowing visual narrative: first, at the bottom, is the jolly, eager departure. A little higher up the page, the coach has tipped into a ditch and the male passengers are pushing it back into position while the ladies sit by the side of the road with the luggage. The third episode shows the coach driving up a slope so steep that the passengers had to get off, and follow in its wake like they would a hearse.
The caption reads in the original French: Voyager, c’est vivre.
