Description:

A European Nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus) is seen from the side in full flight as the light of the setting sun gives the sky a golden glow.

The European nightjar is a migratory bird in the family Caprimulgidae. It spends its days dozing and becomes active soon after sunset, when it starts hunting for night-flying insects it catches on the wing. The author describes its flight as noiseless as that of an owl.
