Description
Fortune and Death are facing each other in an open landscape, each holding a banner. Death has laid his hand on Fortune’s wheel as her left foot rests on a sphere. The main motif is set inside a decorative foliage wreath. The allegory is explained as follows by the author:
And the end of men, and of Fortune, and of all things comes. […] The sky and the earth shall pass away: After death we shall take nothing away but honor, and renown, and victory…
