Description:
Small boats are sailing toward a small island that houses the statue of a lion lying down, its eyes glowing green in the dimming sunset light, as fish and jellyfish rise to the surface of the water in the foreground.
Each plate in this volume was printed twice: once within the relevant passage, framed by an ornamental border, and once unbordered in a separate portfolio bound at the rear, a practice common to luxury editions of the period.
The caption reads in the original French: Sur la tombe du petit roi Hermias était un lion aux yeux d'émeraude...
