Description:

A knight in armor and a rippling, patterned cloak leads his horse through a snow-covered mountain forest, while a band of brigands armed with axes and halberds waits in ambush behind rocky outcrops.

Each plate in this volume was printed twice: once within the relevant passage, framed by an ornamental border, and once unbordered in a separate portfolio bound at the rear, a practice common to luxury editions of the period.

The caption reads in the original French: Qui porte le saphir n'aura peur.
