Steel-engraved botanical plate illustrating three cataloged subspecies of Mammillaria heyderi: gummifera, hemisphaerica, and meiacantha. Contemporary taxonomy now classifies hemisphaerica and the variant applanata as synonyms. The species belongs to the family Cactaceae and is indigenous to Mexico and the United States.
