Description:

View of place de la Concorde at night, looking north, showing the Fountain of the Seas, the Luxor Obelisk, and the Fountain of the Rivers caught in a dazzling beam of light coming from the right of the picture. A small crowd gathered in loose groups has come to witness the event as carriages drive by, going on their usual business.

The caption reads in the original French: Première expérience publique d'éclairage par l'électricité, faite à Paris, sur la place de la Concorde, par Deleuil et Léon Foucault, au mois de décembre 1844.
